Tebogo Mogashoa’s story is one of generational wisdom

Empowering Africa’s Future Through Sustainable Development

Tebogo Mogashoa, a South African businessman, investor, and social contributor, embodies the spirit of resilience and vision that defines modern Africa. Born and raised in Katlehong and later Soweto, his journey from a young scholar to an entrepreneur has been shaped by a rich family legacy of service and entrepreneurship.

Tebogo attributes much of his character to his grandmother and idol, Mum Rose, a respected matriarch who profoundly shaped his life. Trained as a nurse in her youth, Mum Rose was revered by both family and community for her leadership. She, along with Tebogo’s grandfather, Papa Job, embodied the entrepreneurial spirit that would later define Tebogo’s path.

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, Tebogo was immersed in a family of business owners. Job Mogashoa, a self-taught and self-made entrepreneur, diversified into various ventures, many of which continue to operate today — a testament to their sustainable foundation. Mum Rose (Rose Mogashoa), herself a formidable businesswoman, owned multiple properties, further cementing the family’s business legacy. This entrepreneurial environment, coupled with Mum Rose’s inspiring influence, instilled in Tebogo a strong business acumen and a deep-rooted sense of community leadership from an early age.

Meanwhile, Tebogo’s paternal lineage and inspiration is two generations of service to our country and bravery. Grandfather Collins Ramusi was a South African politician and lawyer who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 until his death in 1996. His son, Tebogo’s father, Selaelo Ramusi, played a crucial role in the liberation of South Africa. He was honoured with a Medal of Bravery by the late Nelson Mandela, former President. Additionally, former President Jacob Zuma acknowledged him as one of the notable contributors to the struggle. His name has been permanently engraved at the Freedom Park Heritage Site & Museum, Pretoria, South Africa.

There has always been the importance of strong family in Tebogo’s life. He further pays tribute to his mother, Matshidiso Mogashoa, whose unwavering dedication lies in her genuine commitment to humanitarian pursuits, empowering women and fostering positive transformation. In her role with the Forestry industry in the 1980s, she worked together with communities to break the cycle and discourage children from entering the same profession as their parents, thus preventing them from becoming forest workers themselves.

An engineer, Tebogo oversees the conglomerate’s varied portfolio including sustainable farming and food global production, financial services, logistics, conservation and commercial property development, culminating in the creation of a 30-year history of longevity and legacy businesses. The Mogashoa Foundation, in many ways a tribute to Mum Rose’s legacy, channels this success into meaningful social impact across South Africa.

Tebogo Mogashoa’s story is one of generational wisdom, where family values of compassion, integrity, and community service drive large-scale positive change. Through his work, he continues to honour and build upon the powerful legacy of his family, touching lives and transforming communities across the nation.

Humanitarian aspirations are guided by values and family legacy. In many ways, the Mogashoa Foundation is a tribute to the legacy of Mum Rose, Tebogo’s late grandmother.
